Up to the minute information about 4-H in Washington County

THIS WEEK IN 4-H
November 20, 2009

4-H TIP OF THE WEEK…Everyone likes to be appreciated for a job well done.  As many clubs prepare for their club recognition events, remember that recognition activities need not be formal, public or expensive.  Here are some possible ideas that are both inexpensive and fun!  1)  Write a news article for the local newspaper, highlighting your club members’ achievements throughout the year  2) Send a holiday greeting card or e-mail  3)  Have a soft drink party  4)  Develop a “2009 Achievements” slide show.  For these ideas and others, check out the OSU Extension Fact Sheet entitled “123 Ways to Recognize 4-H Members” in your Advisor Handbook.

CONGRATULATIONS…to all those who were recognized at the 4-H County Awards Night.  We had over 100 members recognized for their achievements in 4-H during the past year.  A special congratulations to our Margaret Meredith Award winners Arielle Gebhart of Explorers and CARTeens and Josiah Fryman of the Honeysuckle Hills 4-H Club.  For a complete list of winners, visit http://washington.osu.edu/topics/4-h-youth-development/4-h-awards

2010 WASHINGTON COUNTY 4-H THEME IS... “4-H…Giving Our Best” Thank you to the 4-H Advisory Committee for this theme suggestion.

2008-2009 TRIP POSTERS…If you turned in a 4-H trip poster earlier this summer, you may now pick them up at the Extension Office.  A special thanks to all those who submitted a poster.  We used them at all of the fairs and at Awards Night to promote these great 4-H opportunities!

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS…4-H has several college scholarships available for current or former 4-H members.  There are also a few scholarships for current OSU students.  For information and application materials, check out http://www.ohio4h.org/youth/awards/index.html  The deadline to submit applications to the County Office is January 22.

2010 FAMILY GUIDE IS NOW AVAILABLE…in hard copy at the Extension office.  It is also posted on the 4-H website at www.ohio4h.org/familyguide. Check the inside front cover for a summary of changes from last year. Also, it’s been reorganized in a way that we hope makes it easier to browse topic areas and locate specific titles. It even has a subject index!
